# What is Workser?

> Workser is a proactive AI workforce that runs your business: AI agents hired by role that work on a shared cloud computer and ask you only when a step is risky.

**Workser is a proactive AI workforce that runs your business.** You hire AI agents by role. Each one can have its own work email, phone number and logins, works on your project's shared cloud computer, does real tasks on its own and asks you only when a step is risky. Workser runs in your web browser: there is nothing to install, and your first task is free.

## What is an AI workforce?

An AI workforce is a team of AI agents that each own a job in your business, like answering customers, checking invoices or writing posts, and do it on their own. Unlike a chatbot, each one has its own logins and a shared cloud computer, keeps working while you're away, and asks you only when a step is risky.

## What makes Workser a workforce

> **A role, not a prompt**
>
> Each AI agent is hired for a job: customer support, bookkeeping, social posts. It keeps the job's instructions, tools and history, so you don't explain it again.

> **Its own identity**
>
> It can have its own [work email and phone number](/ai-workforce/identity), and uses [saved logins](/ai-workforce/logins-and-computers) to your apps. It fills passwords in by name and never sees them.

> **A cloud computer**
>
> It works on the project's shared cloud computer, in a cloud browser and your connected apps, so the work keeps going when your laptop is closed.

> **Works on its own**
>
> It runs [Automations](/ai-workforce/automations) on a schedule or when something happens, like a new email, and suggests the next task when one ends.

> **Asks when it's risky**
>
> Refunds, deletes, cancellations, payments from \$50 and emails to people you haven't trusted yet [wait for your yes](/ai-workforce/approvals-and-stuck). Everything else it just does.

> **Reports like a colleague**
>
> It checks its work against what you asked before it says Done, and texts you in your [chat app](/ai-workforce/chat-apps) when a task is done or stuck.

## How it differs from a chatbot, an AI chat app and automation

These are kinds of tools, not products. Many products mix them, and a simple automation is often the cheapest choice for a fixed task.

| | Chatbot | AI chat app | Automation tool | AI workforce |
| - | - | - | - | - |
| Who starts the work | A customer, with a question | You, each time | A trigger you set up | You, an Automation, or the AI agent itself |
| What it does | Answers from a script or a help center | Writes and answers in a chat window | Runs the same steps every time | Does whole tasks in your apps, start to finish |
| Where it works | On your website | In a chat window | Between connected apps | A shared cloud computer, a web browser and your apps |
| When something new comes up | Hands over to a person | Waits for your next message | Stops until someone fixes it | Works it out, or asks you if it's risky |
| Best for | Common customer questions | Thinking and drafting with you | Fixed, repeated steps | Ongoing work you'd give a new hire |

## Who it's for

* Owners of small businesses who do the desk work themselves after hours.
* Solo founders and freelancers who want admin, inbox and follow-ups off their plate.
* Small teams that want routine work done the same way every day without hiring for it yet.

Read [AI agents by type of business](/ai-workforce/use-cases): online shops, SaaS, freelancers, restaurants, agencies and local services.

## What it isn't

* It doesn't replace your judgment: risky steps come to you, and you can stop any task.
* It works best on tasks you can describe in plain words and check afterwards.
* Work phone numbers are US and Canada only today; elsewhere it works by email and chat apps.
